Evolve In Spirit

A girlfriend of mine posted a comment on my facebook wall yesterday that struck a cord in me, so I will take action and share my philosophy on it while it is still fresh…
She wrote:

the harder someone tries to destroy me, the harder I will pray for their salvation ”

I
have learned through my studies recently that underneath every behavior is a positive intention. Yes, Every Behavior. Even behaviors that seem ‘destructive’.

And I will say that in the past I can totally relate to being so consumed with the desire to see someone who I am in conflict with go away, forever, that I too have had destructive thoughts toward them and myself.


…Conflict seems so ‘uncivilized and base’ that we often can’t accept it. It’s like a secret deep part of us [maybe our spirit] knows better, and knows that the person we are in conflict with knows better too, and the fact that we are even having conflict at all is such a bummer [to our spirit] that the animal or base reaction within each of us is to destroy the situation and everyone involved…

Armed with the new knowledge that underneath every behavior is a positive intention, I got curious about my own occasional impatience and desire to “destroy” [as she says] others, and because I looked, I was given the gift of becoming aware of what was underneath for me.

The message I got was that I wanted to ‘evolve’ them.

Re-Parenting / Self Responsibility

I have repeatedly asked for guidance about my parents. I’ve spent a good chunk of my self examination on their influence on me, and what I thought they did wrong. Once, while seeking guidance about ‘why’, the response I heard went something like this:

People can only give you what they have.

Growing up, your parents could never have taken ‘better’ care of you than the care they did take. They could have only taken the exact kind of care of you that they did, given the resources they had, and what they had to offer. That is who they are. And who they are is not a bad thing, it is not the enemy.

If fact, they were only supposed to do what they did and be exactly who they were. Who they were was important (if not divine) in shaping you as you are. Continue reading Re-Parenting | Self Responsibility

Bikram Yoga

I just discovered Bikram Yoga back in February, and have to admit it has been life changing. If you are in good physical health, have medical clearance to exercise, and are interested in taking your relationship to your body and mind to a whole new level – find a Bikram Yoga class near you ASAP. The room is heated to 105-135 degrees, so this class is not for the faint at heart. Below are a few pics of the poses that make up the 90 minute class. It is amazing how many positive physiological benefits are packed into a single class experience.

The personal benefits that I have experienced include clear complexion, loss of body fat, reduced inflammation in my face, stress reduction, increase in energy, increase in confidence, straighter posture, balanced and happier mood, increase in patience with self and others, improvement in my digestion as well as just overall feeling really content and comfortable in my skin.
